Hi, I’m Leiah Abshear.
My first step in counseling is to establish a solid relationship with the client. I like the client to feel comfortable and safe, to help create a space in which they can share what’s on their mind and heart.
I love to help teens and young adults navigate all their transitions and learn how to identify their emotions and communicate them in healthy ways. This time of life can come with a lot of struggles, and we look for productive ways to approach those.
I have done career counseling with many older teenagers and adults to assist them in finding their passions and possible career paths. I also love to bridge the gap between parents and teens to help them communicate better and form healthier relationships.
I have always been drawn to assisting people who struggle with anxiety or depression — including postpartum anxiety and depression. I like to teach clients a variety of techniques and coping skills that decrease symptoms while also addressing the causes. These diagnoses can feel very isolating, and I like to be someone who will walk beside you while also giving you the tools to get to where — and who — you want to be.
